Speaking of imagination, can you imagine that if everyone in the United States replaced one light bulb with a LED bulb we would save enough energy to light 3 million homes for a year.  We could save $600 million in energy costs and 9 billion pounds of green house gas emissions annually which would be equivalent to the removal of about 800,000 cars from our roads.  We could do all this and still reduce your lighting energy consumption by up to 80% per bulb.


LEDs have many advantages over incandescent and CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light) bulbs.  First, they are solid state products.  That means that the reliability of LEDs exceed that of CFLs and incandescent bulbs.  Secondly,  they are not susceptible to vibrational damage (which can greatly reduce the life expectancy of bulbs) like  CFL and incandescent bulbs.  Third, they are not susceptible to damage from frequent on/off cycles like CFLs are.  Fourth, LEDs achieve full brightness with no warm up time.  Finally, LED efficiency is surpassed by none.  The money saved by using less energy is obvious, but what about the less obvious savings.  Using a General RT206 infrared thermometer from 12 inches away a GE 60 watt soft white incandescent bulb measured a whopping 317 ^o F while our 60 watt LED equivalent measured a paltry 120 ^o F.  That is a 197 ^o F difference.  That equates to a decreased heat load on your airconditioner which in turn will cycle on and off less frequently.  With the air conditioner being used less frequently you are saving more money.
